On July 26, NFA Board member and Southwest Franchisee Association President, Mike Laird, was recognized for his significant contributions to the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Foundation’s Unmet Needs Program at the VFW’s 124th National Convention in Phoenix. Laird Management BURGER KING® restaurants across the region run the VFW Roundup campaign that takes place annually to support their Unmet Needs Program.
Since the program’s inception in 2004, VFW has distributed over $12.9 million to military families in need. BURGER KING began their partnership with VFW in 2007, and over the last 16 years, BK® franchisees and their customers have contributed $7.59 million to the program, with $660,000 donated in this fiscal year alone.
As a veteran himself, Laird recognizes the importance of this program, saying, “I was in the U.S. Army, and my brothers are also veterans, so it’s personal to me.”
“I have an understanding of some of the difficulties that other veterans and active-duty service members go through when they are transitioning back into civilian life,” he said.
“I know there’s a great need for support to our veterans,” Laird continued. “That’s why it’s important for businesses, organizations and communities to come together and fill in the gaps, and the VFW Unmet Needs Program does that very effectively.”
“Our restaurant teams really get into the VFW campaign and enjoy supporting the cause,” he finished. “Additionally, our customers are enthusiastic about participating and supporting this important mission. It’s really special to see everyone excited about helping our veterans.”
Laird and BURGER KING franchisees across the U.S. look forward to continuing their support for the VFW Unmet Needs Program for years to come!
